Dear Community Garden members,
The East Van Garden Tour is coming up this Sunday, June 19 (Father’s Day), from 10am – 4pm and is a great tour, with more than a dozen home gardens (including some veggie gardens) and community “greened” public spaces, all walking distance from tour ‘home base”, Figaro’s Garden Centre, at 3rd and Victoria. Now in its eighteenth year, the tour is a fundraiser for Britannia Neighbours, who maintain the Napier Greenway at Britannia Community Centre, as well as other “greening” projects.
Tickets are only $10 per person and you can pre-register by phone (604-718-5800) or in person at Britannia Community Centre Info Centre (1661 Napier Street). Pre-registration suggested. On the day of the tour, there will be some tickets (cash only) at Figaro’s Garden Centre (1896 Victoria Drive). Once there, pick up your map showing garden locations, enjoy some refreshments and then head out at your own pace. All gardens are walking distance from Figaro’s and each other. Gardeners will be home to answer questions about their plants and gardens. A Master Gardener will also be on site.
A couple of tips: To avoid the “rush” at the start of the tour, and having pre-registered, if you come a bit later, say 11am (or even later), you’ll tour exactly the same gardens with fewer viewers. Also, if you walk over to Commercial Drive, before or after the tour, you can take in Car Free Day, too!
Note that most gardens are not wheelchair- or stroller-accessible. Children must be either babes-in-arms or 12 years or older. Pets are not allowed. Photos are allowed only with the garden owner’s permission.
See the attached poster. You can email me if you need more info. For neat pictures check out http://eastsidegardentour.blogspot.com/
Hope you can make it,
Ann Daskal, for the EVGT Committee of Britannia Neighbours
